Sprawling over 1300sq km of dense forest, green hills and grasslands, the Corbett National Park with its rich bio- geographical diversity houses 110 species of trees, 51 species of shrubs, 27 species of climbers, 37 species of grasses and bamboos, over 50 mammals, 580 resident & migratory birds and 25 reptile species. The entire area is fertile with diverse varieties of flora and fauna thereby making it the finest example of healthiest food chain.With the crystal clear water of Ramganga feeding the entire area, purity is found even in its air.

 

Major Wildlife Attractions - Corbett National Park

Corbett National Park is known for being the first Tiger Reserve in 1973. It is popular for being the natural habitat of the majestic predator and a huge diversity of wildlife. Its residents include four kinds of Deer, Wild Boar and Elephants.


One can spot the Leopards in the hilly areas of the park. The famous nocturnal cats found here are Leopard Cat, Jungle Cat and Fishing Cat. Sloth Bear are usually spotted in the lower region of the park while the Himalayan Black Bear is found in the higher hills only. The Wild Dog is found in the southern areas of the park along with the Jackal. The park also abounds in smaller creatures like Himalayan Palm Civet, Indian Gray Mongoose, Common Otter, Himalayan Palm Civet, Indian Gray Mongoose are some of famous species.

Sal trees (Shorea robusta) found in the lower regions are its main vegetation. As one moves higher, one comes across dense and diverse variety of plants and trees. The commonly found varieties are the Chir (Pinus roxburghii), anauri (Legestroemia paruiflora) and Bakli (Anogeissus latifolia). The park is also full of different varieties of Bamboo.

Fish eating Gharial Crocodile and the 'Muggar' Crocodile can be spotted along the shores of river Ramganga. The Ghoral or Goat Antelopes are abundent on the hillsides. Monitor Lizards, turtles, Cobras, Pythons and the Sal forest Tortoise are also seen here.
